Department Of Mass Media and Communication

Department of Mass Communication & Media is the leading department of the university, was established in 2014 with the degrees of BS (Hons) 4 years and Master of Arts (M.A) 2 years. The current age is the age of information and technology as we are living in global age and this globalization is the strength of Mass Communication and Media around us, which integers the need of higher studies and strategic research to look into issues to benefit the society. The University of Narowal previously University of Gujrat (Sub-Campus Narowal) is privileged to introduce the Department of Mass Communication & Media, in an under developed district like Narowal to compete the national and international media studies centers. FM radio station and a TV studio along with a fully equipped production house is in planning and will be added to the department in coming years in the new building of University of Narowal where department would shift at the end of this year. Keeping in view the needs and scope of research in both industry and academia, a research oriented and quality education is planned keeping industry-academia linkage on board.

The mission for establishing Department of Mass Communication and Media is to provide the conducive learning atmosphere through the latest teaching techniques and digital technology. Media has become a key player at present to provide information and entertainment, so practical work and applied knowledge of media production, reporting and research help individuals to become change agents at both national and Global communication advancements.

Media is a highly popular, and therefore competitive field. After completing the degree students will be able to join Radio, television, Online Journalism newspaper, Public Relations organizations or advertising agencies , news agencies teaching etc.

The Department has launched its own newspaper and magazine as laboratory publications for the training of the students in the field. Newspaper titled “Campus News” appears on monthly basis whereas the magazine titled “CAMPUS-MAG” is a biannual publication. Both these print media entities will help the students to learn the practical aspects of print journalism, which will definitely be beneficial for them to adjust in print media organizations and get better chances of employment.

Group discussions, seminars, symposiums, debates and speech competitions are of and on arranged by the Department, in order to develop and polish the communication skills of the future media practitioners of Pakistan. Similarly renowned electronic and print media practitioners, experts of public relations and advertising academicians and researchers of media studies, human rights activists and experts of certain media disciplines are frequently invited to the Department for delivering extensive and thought provoking lectures regarding latest scenarios of various aspects of media development in the globe in general and in Pakistan particularly.
