The Second Panel Discussion on “Building Bridges for Lasting Peace in the Region” brought together renowned experts from the fields of religion, law, education, public policy, and countering violent extremism to discuss practical strategies for fostering sustainable peace, regional cooperation, and social harmony. The session featured distinguished panelists including Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zahid, Mohtamim of Jamia Imdadia Faisalabad; Justice Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwer of the Federal Shariat Court; Mr. Ghulam Sagheer Shaid, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Punjab Center of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism; and Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, Vice Chancellor of Government College Women University (GCWU), Sialkot. The discussion was skillfully moderated by Dr. Adnan Rafiq, Member of the Planning Commission of Pakistan.



During the session, the panelists emphasized that lasting peace in the region requires a collective commitment to dialogue, mutual understanding, justice, and inclusive development. They highlighted the importance of strengthening social cohesion by promoting tolerance, respect for diversity, and constructive engagement among communities. Moderating the discussion, Dr. Adnan Rafiq highlighted the importance of integrating peacebuilding principles into national development strategies and emphasized that sustainable progress can only be achieved in an environment characterized by peace, social justice, and collaboration. The session concluded with a consensus that building bridges for lasting peace requires continuous engagement, shared responsibility, and collective action from all segments of society. The panel provided valuable insights and practical recommendations for fostering regional harmony, empowering future generations, and creating a more peaceful, prosperous, and resilient society.
